Desolation
The Sierra Nevadas above Lake Tahoe host Desolation Wilderness, some of the last moderately undisturbed wilderness in the contiguous US. This granite playground of wind-deformed trees and a lake around every turn is too treacherous and remote for access by any means save our own two feet. In other words: Perfection for those of us fortunate enough to be ambulatory.
